Fire Island has many things to offer besides some of the best beaches in the world. There are museums, educational programs, tours, interesting speakers and more. Since our little paradise is part of the Fire Island National Seashore and we actually have the privilege of staying in a National Park, many of the available activities relate to nature and the preservation thereof. A good starting point is the Fire Island Lighthouse. The exhibitions there relate more to the history of the island. While Sailors Haven and Sunken Forrest is more geared towards nature and the undisturbed barrier beach habitat. Be sure to check out the community calendar which includes events offered by the Park Service, the Lighthouse and others. It may not be complete at all times, but it can give you a good idea. Click on the above links to explore some of the possibilities.
