Lyme Disease or LD is a relatively "new" disease. New in that the medical profession is on a steep learning curve trying to understand and develop courses of treatment. Even detection is still a problem with no definitive tests available. Once the initial infection has been missed, Chronic LD manifests itself with many different symptoms that as a whole may be missed. Because of our close proximity to deer in Ocean Beach and on Fire Island, vigilance is called for. Please peruse the following pages carefully if you suspect something is wrong wrong with you. To start I would recommend reading Cathy Morrisey's article reprinted here with her permission. Although not living on Fire Island, Cathy and her family have been Lyme sufferers for many years and she is devoting many hours to education and the political aspects of LD.
