Individual Membership in LICA The Long Island Coastal Alliance, a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1989,gives coastal communities, property owner associations, co-ops and condominiums, individual property owners and coast-related and maritime business people a voice in coastal policy-making. Too often, the interests and rights of these citizens are lost sight of as government agencies, jockeying to carry out what they see as their mandates, are pulled in one direction or another by environmentalists and other interest groups. LICA’s newsletter, Coastal Reports, has reviewed and analyzed Long Island coastal issues since 1990. At Long Island’s only annual coastal conference, held each April, LICA attracts speakers on technical, economic, social and environmental issues that affect the coastline. The Proceedings of the LICA Conference are published each year. Through its chairman, Gerard Stoddard, LICA is affiliated with the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (vice president), its Northeast Chapter (director), the American Coastal Coalition (vice chairman), the Fire Island Association (president) and other coast-related organizations. If you own property in a coastal area, are a government employee with coast-related responsibilities, or own or work in a coast-related business, LICA and Coastal Reports are for you.
