Sumithrin / ANVIL
Up Larvicides ALTOSID VECTOLEX VECTOBAC Sumithrin / ANVIL Permethrin Resmethrin/Scourge

New York City Department of Health

Pyrethroids: Sumithrin (Anvil)

horizontal rule

Anvil is a pyrethroid-based pesticide registered for use in mosquito control by the Environmental Protection Agency and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. It is effective against adult mosquitoes, including the Culex species, which transmitted West Nile virus last year. Anvil is registered for use against mosquitoes in swamps, marshes, outdoor residential and recreational areas. It has low toxicity to humans, mammals, and the environment. In three decades of its use, there have been no reports of toxic effects of Anvil to people, pregnant women, pets, or other mammals. Mild eye and skin irritation may occur with exposure to Anvil, which can be treated by washing the eyes and skin thoroughly with water after contact.

The active ingredient in Anvil is Sumithrin, a synthetic pesticide similar to a natural pesticide produced by chrysanthemum flowers. Sumithrin quickly breaks down in sunlight and water, and will not cause damage to the environment.

Children or adults who have asthma or a respiratory condition should stay inside if spraying occurs. In addition, windows and doors should be closed and air conditioners should be shut off.

For more information about West Nile virus, call the New York City Department of Health West Nile Information Line, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at (877) WNV-4NYC or (877) 968-4692.

April 2000

Every effort has been made to provide correct, complete and up-to-date pest management information for New York State in this publication. Changes in pesticide regulations thus occur constantly, and human errors are still possible. These recommendations are not a substitute for pesticide labeling. None of the above has been verified by the employees of Ocean-Beach.com
