St. Andrews survived the devastating 1938 hurricane and
storm surge which destroyed a large percentage of the village of Saltaire.
The building's stained glass windows memorialize early residents and
leaders of the congregation. The front window depicts Jesus by the Sea of
Galilee as he calls his disciples to be "fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19).
It is the needed repair of the framework holding this window that has
rallied support for a fundraising series this summer. See the
community calendar
for dates.
Many weddings have been performed in this sanctuary and
many infants have been baptized.
Sabbath services are held throughout the season by
visiting pastors at 8:00 and 10:00pm using the traditional Episcopal
liturgy. Bible Study meets one morning a week. A yearly fund-raising sale
of attic treasures and homemade baked goods, held at the Saltaire Yacht
Club, welcomes contributions and participants.
