9/14 "Can you believe it? A couple of page-turners, one affair, and,
wham -- it's Labor Day". The New Yorker.
9/6 The last hurrah of the season. A long weekend that was long on rainy
promises but insisted on ample sunshine. Visitors were out in strong
numbers and Ocean Beach merchants started putting out the "Sale" signs.
Good shopping ahead! Check out our new "History" sections on
Fire Island and
Ocean Beach.
8/27 Eating out? Please e-mail us your experiences. Good - Bad - Indifferent! Any
community. Let's prepare ourselves for the Cherry Grove Pageant and Tea
Dance. Tickets are required. Check the
Calendar for details.
8/18 The calendar
is full with activities. Been to Sunken Forrest?
7/20 Mark your
Calendars for the Fire Island Association Summer Meeting on 7/31
11:00am at the OB Community House. Click this link for the interesting
agenda. Meet
some of the people that help "shape" Fire Island.
7/14 Have you checked out the Lighthouse? Climbed the tower?
Participated in the Nature Talks? Check out the
Calendar of
activities.
7/3 Kids hanging around the house this summer, eating junk food and
playing Pokemon? Well why not get them reading books that they'll like
for a change. Click on this link for more information:

6/28 Getting bored on the Beach? There's plenty do in Ocean Beach in
July. Check out the
calendar for all listings.
6/15 New Bay Front Listing in Fair Harbor under
House for Sale. Check it out!
6/2 Three days of "10" weather! Sunny and warm with cooling breezes off
the ocean. The social calendar heated up with several parties.
Preparations are underway for the Fair Harbor
Pine Walk Fair (7/3 11to6) benefiting the Fresh Air Fund.
Volunteers and donations are still needed (Contact Helen Kornblau at
583-8874). Be sure to mark your calendars and visit.
5/16 T -6 The big move-in weekend is near! It was a gorgeous weekend,
but judging from the activity and noise around the community few people
had time to enjoy the weather. Instead many home-owner were busy getting
their houses ready.
Scouts, hungry for shopping, reported that all stores are ready and that
many fine things can be purchased. Summer is here!
5/3 The beach still looks a bit battered in OB while Corneilles is a bit
reduced but still wide. Saturday saw a lengthy OB Board meeting.
"Sparks" flew over the bidding for the new garbage contract. A trustee
was asked to excuse himself from voting, but didn't. The partie's
lawyers threatened to sue. More to come on this subject. The June vote
will contain a referendum for a defined benefit program for the OB
Volunteer Fire Fighters. Cost is expected to run at $ 0.115 per thousand
assessed value. Think global, vote local!
4/26 The ferries are getting more crowded! Summer must be nigh.
Please don't forget the OB Village Board meeting on Saturday at 10am.
Please see
Calendar-Events as the calendar is beginning to fill.
4/19 Wonderful weekend. For you windsurfer: Sunday was a wonderful 5.5
from due west. Steve and myself enjoyed the brisk winds and at times the
swell breaking on the recently built up second bar. Reaching in the
flats was grand.
4/19 Jerry Stoddard reports of a very interesting LICA meeting. In fact
it was so interesting that most people stayed the entire day. Read here
more about it at a later date.
4/14 Don't forget the Long
Island Coastal Association (LICA) meeting on
4/16 (Saturday). New
pages on this site include information on the LICA and also the
Fire Island Association (FIA).
Please see what is being done to protect our beaches.
4/4 Great sunny weekend. Houses are being fixed up and readied for the
season.
4/1 Important meeting: The Long Island Coastal Alliance
annual meeting on April 16, Speakers include many policy makers and
administrators including Senator Forbes. See
details on this link.
3/20 For those of you suffering from Lyme, I have added an
article by Cathy
Morrissey who is a long-time sufferer and who spends a great deal of
time educating and trying to influence legislature to deal with Lyme and
HMO's. If you have anything to add from the Long Island region, please
e-mail me.
I'd like to hear from you.
3/13 Realtors report high levels of activity and even a few home-sales.
Welcome to all new home-owners and renters. Share activity is revving
up!
3/12 Thanks to Bob Fasciano for his interesting article of how to
protect the exterior of a Fire
Island Home.
2/21/99 Had the opportunity to visit the Island on Saturday. The
Nor'easter was
cancelled and it turned out to be a glorious day. I took some
snap-shots of surfers that
couldn't resist the swells on light north-wind. The beach looks a bit
battered in Ocean Beach. The town had placed
Geo-Tubes (huge long
bags filled with sand) to protect the dunes. Usually the beach comes
back by summer. Everybody was busy. The Realtors are showing what's left
and even a few house-sales were made. All the contractors were busy
taking advantage of the weather. Many houses were worked on to improve
for the coming season. For a quick summary of the
Town Board meeting click
here.
2/19/99 Sorry, we were not available for a little while. The "Out"
occurred because we moved to a new computer providing us with new
advanced capabilities. If you saw the movie "4th of July" you may
recall how our cigar-smoking heroes injected the alien mothership with a
virus that filtered down from the mother ship to the sateliteships.
Similar here, the new address needs to filter down from the domain name
authority to the hundreds of sub computer used as "roadmap" to
www.Ocean-Beach.com.
It may take a day. Look in the future for exiting new features on this
site. Of course address www.Ocean-Beach.com remains the same.
2/12/99 Thanks to our well trained volunteer fire fighters and some wet
weather a major loss of houses was avoided in Saltaire. An
ocean-side home on Navy caught fire and fueled by strong winds
severely damaged a house adjacent to it. If it hadn't been for the quick
and skillful response of the Fire Companies from Ocean Beach, Fair
Harbor, Saltaire, and Kismet many more houses downwind would have
burned. A big Thanks to all our Volunteer Fire Fighters on Fire Island,
who gladly will protect all of our houses, no matter which community.
2/6/99 More Health News: Another new test for lyme is in the early
stages of testing and still subject to FDA approval. The test promises
to detect lyme very early on in the infection. Developed by UConn and
financed by Bio-Investigations the test looks for cell changes in the
presence of lyme-causing bacteria.
1/17/99 Learn more about Fair Harbor at our sister-site.
1/16/99 On the Health-front important news for all you lyme sufferers:
Dr. Steven Phillips of Ridgefield, CT together with others for the first
time ever was able to cultivate Lyme-Bacteria. Read more about this
important develpoment and it's implications on the Ocean Beach
Lyme pages.
Now is the time to place your advertisents for your Ocean Beach and
Corneille shares
or rentals for
only $10.-
